The Stonycreek Rendezvous will feature rafting trips through the Stonycreek Canyon through local outfitters Coal Tubin and Wilderness Voyageursof Ohiopyle ( Click on either name for contact and registration ) . $50 will included necessary gear: wetsuit (if needed), helmet, life vest, professional guide and lunch. Pre-Registration is encouraged and preferred. Space is limited and will be available on a first come first serve basis.Both vendors will be on-site Friday evening of the festival for further registration.

Raft trips will meet at Greenhouse Park ( festival site ) at 10am to gear up for the trip.

Beginner’s Trip now on Middle Yough!

Folks, the Loyalhanna is currently at 168 cfs. That will Not work. Spoke with Jeff Prcyl. We are switching to the Middle Yough. Still Class I-II for beginners. We will meet in OHIOPYLE at the Ferncliff Parking area (across from Wilderness Voyageurs) between 8:30 AM and 9 AM. Do safety briefing. Paddle UPSTREAM and just cover the last 1-1.5 miles of the Middle Yough. Still bring lunch. Great Day. Will paddle on Sunday as well with site to be determined based on rainfall. Casselman or maybe the Loyalhanna on Sunday.

PennDOT: Carpenter Park Bridge Replacement.

PennDOT is developing plans to replace the Carpenters Park Bridge. There will be a public display of the plans at the Conemaugh Twp Building. This may affect our access to the river and the river guage; both during construction and after, depending on the bridge design. Raystown Cruise

The Penrod float on the Juniata River in Bedford is now scheduled for Sunday,
APRIL 1st.   Meet at Bruce’s at 10 am to run shuttle or meet at Ritchey Bridge
at 11 am and run shuttle after.   9 miles of Class I.   Take out at Bruce’s
A-frame on the river.   Bring covered dish. BCC will supply beverages and meat
(grill).   RSVP on hotline (814)266-4276.   Just tell me how many so I can plan
accordingly. Also leave message if you need directions.   SPEAK slow and
clearly with message.

Spring Releases

We are fairly sure that the first official release from the Quemahoning Reservoir will be on May 5 and 6. The release will start at 7. The water should reach Faustwell bridge around 10 AM. Boaters should put on between 10 AM and 2 PM. Note: if the Stony is flowing less than 730 CFS at Ferndale, we should get a full 500 CFS release. Any more and the release will be reduced to achieve a maximum 1310 CFS flow at Ferndale. The next release after this will be on May 18, 19, and 20.

St Francis Pool Sessions

The second pool practice session will be on Sunday March 25 at Saint
Francis University from 2:00 to 4:00 at a cost is $5 per person if Benscreek
member or $10 per person if not a member. This is an open practice session with
no formal training offered although peer to peer assistance and encouragement
will be available. This is a first time event for St. Francis and we are being
allowed to use their pool on a trial basis, so please make sure your boat is

Beginners Trip

We will have a beginners trip on Saturday, March 10th.
Note: this turned was a beautiful warm day on the river. Our beginners and experienced boaters alike had a great time (especially Emily).

: 2012 Roll Sessions

The 2012 Roll Sessions are finished. We had the largest turnout ever with around 40 boats in the pool each night. Lots of experienced paddlers working on new skills and lots of beginners learning the fine arts of wet exits and basic kayak skills from the ever patient Jeff Prycl.
