Rendezvous: Beginners Instruction

On Saturday morning of the Rendezvous, Jeff Prycl from Rocky Mountain Kayak will be conducting a beginners instructional paddle on the lower section of the Stony (Carpenter’s Park to Greenhouse). The goal is to be on the water by 9:30-ish and spend three hours working on beginner skills. This is a great section to hone your budding kayak skills on, all that is required is you, your gear, and the ability to wet exit.

Rendezvous Entertainment

The Halftime String Band has entertained audiences throughout the Appalachian region, and as far away as Alaska, with their unique blend of acoustic Americana music. Often described as “jam grass”, the band’s music has a strong bluegrass influence, but does not include the standard elements of a traditional bluegrass band (there is no banjo or fiddle in the group). The song selection covers a wide array of musical styles, including original compositions and unique arrangements.

For Sale: Historic Wooden Canoe

Unique wooden canoe. It was made by Eagle Scouts in Johnstown circa 1955 out of orange crate lumber following a Popular Mechanics plan. Orange crates were made of pretty good wood in those days. I got it from the former scoutmaster. It is approximately 16′ long. The canvas has been replaced, waterproofed and painted. The canoe was thereafter used only once since on a successful test in the Que. Included but not shown in photos are wooden lattice that protects the interior, paddles, life vests. Price is $999. April Meeting and Stonycreek Cleanup

The BCC is meeting (Wed), April 17^th at the Crow’s Nest at 7 PM. Please attend this important finalization of plans for the Spring schedule and the Rendezvous May 17-19.

This weekend, April 20 & 21, will mark the 2^nd release from the Que this season. As usual, water will reach Foustwell at 10 am. Additional flow will continue at Foustwell til 2 pm. This is also “CLEANUP” weekend on the Stony. We meet at Greenhouse Park at 9 AM, Carpenter’s Park at 10 AM then Foustwell at 11 AM. We have additional 1 mile cleanup along the Que road approximately ½ mile from the breast to the fishing area at the 90 degree bend. Bring gloves. As usual, the more people involved, the quicker it gets done. Folks always paddle after the cleanup. Usual time for the paddle is around 1 pm for the Canyon.
