The Benscreek Canoe Club celebrated the Stonycreek achieving River of the Year Status for 2012 on June 16 at Greenhouse Park. The celebration started at Noon with an opening ceremony and ran to late evening with our other activities. Admisssion was free and we had: camping, bands, food, exhibits provided by local watershed associations, boating activities and demonstrations. We had a water release on both Saturday and Sunday.
Schedule:
10:00 AM until 2:00 PM – Sojourn from Hollsopple to Carpenters Park (class III whitewater)
11:00 AM to 6 PM – NonProfit organizations displays and demontrations at Greenhouse Park.
Noon to 12:30 PM – Opening Ceremony and River Blessing at Greenhouse Park.
12:30 PM to 2:00 PM – Greenhouse Park to Inclined Plane River Float. Your own boat or a PA Fish & Boat Commission boat (limited availablity). Return Shuttle was provided.
12:30 PM to 4 PM – SurfSUP Paddleboard demonstrations in Whitewater Park. Also, instruction and gear available for free.
2:00 PM to 3:00 PM – Carpenters Park to Greenhouse Park Race.
2:00 PM to 4:30 PM – FreeStyle Rodeo at Whitewater Park.
4:45 PM to 5:45 PM – Playboater X Race at Whitewater Park.
5:00 PM to 8:00 PM – Music by the Sourth Side Strays. Main Pavilion, Greenhouse Park.
8:00 PM to 11:00 PM – Music by the halftime String Band. Main Pavilion, Greenhouse Park.
The Celebration featured rafting trips through the Stonycreek Canyon through our local outfitter: Coal Tubin
