An invasive algae (Didymosphenia geminata, also known as ‘rock snot’ or ‘didymo’) has been found in the Youghiogheny River. This could spread to our local streams if people, especially boaters, are not careful. You should disinfect your boat and other gear after boating on the Yough. See the Youghiogheny RIVERKEEPER newsletter and the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission page on this for more info.
