Annual Christmas “Lights On” paddle

From Ron Morris:
We are planning on having a Christmas Light Paddle again this year. We plan on adding some extra light to the shortest day of the year  Dec 21, 2012 (the first day of winter and the winter solstice). We will paddle (with lights on our boats) a short section of the Stony Creek / Conemaugh through Johnstown. We will pass under the Stone Bridge while its “Lights” are on. Put in will be at the river wall ramp downstream of the Hickory Street bridge (near AutoZone). Take out will be at the river wall ramp at Sixth Street in Cambria City.
There is a pipe line across the river just below the Fourth Street bridge. It has been crossed by many paddlers during the annual sojourn. We will be crossing it in the dark so we will need to pay attention.
We will again raise money to donate to the Salvation Army. Last year we donated about $250. We would like to raise even more this year. Please join us in this effort to help those that help others. We intend to have a “Red Kettle” at the small park at the point. A great place to watch if you will be unable to paddle. Consider donating if you cannot make it out.
Meet at Sixth Street take out at 5:00PM to set up shuttle. The bridge lights are to come on at 5:30 PM. Bring any lights you may have. We will have some extra chem lights. Lets light up as many boats as we can.

Update: despite a valiant effort by Ron, very cold windy weather and high water forced us to cancell this event.  Better luck next year.
