Folks, since our area has moved to the “Yellow” phase of Corvid-19 restrictions, we will be able to hold our normal summer events: Releases, Full Moon Paddles and Middle Yough Trips.
June: Full Moon Paddle on Friday the 5th. Middle Yough Trip will be held on Saturday, the 20th (Sunday is Father’s Day).
July: Full Moon Paddle on Sunday the 5th. Middle Yough Trip on Sunday the 19th.
August: Full Moon Paddle on Sunday the 2nd. Middle Yough Trip on Sunday the 16th.
September: Full Moon Paddle on Wednesday the 2nd. Middle Yough Trip on Sunday the 6th.
Watch our website and Facebook page for details. Weather and river levels may affect these events.
Cambria and Somerset Counties will be in the Yellow restriction zone starting this Friday (5/15/20). So we have been given the go ahead to have a normal release this weekend: May 16 & 17. Reservoir is full with 7 in going over the spillway and the Stony is running at 1280 cfs (11 AM, Monday 5/11) and they are calling for rain later this week (and warmer temperatures). So we might not even need a release! Looks like paddling on most of our local rivers might be good! Please remember that we are still dealing with the pandemic. Paddling is safe. But try to limit the size of groups before and after paddling. Please wear masks when shuttling. Hug your boats not your buddies.
Releases for May 23rd and 30 & 31 are also back on schedule. Enjoy.
Greenhouse Park is partially opening on Friday the 15th. Whitewater Park and boater access will be open but the bathrooms and pavilions are closed.
It is with a heavy heart that we must officially cancel the Rendezvous. It has become apparent that social distancing restrictions will not be lifted in time to hold the event. The Rendezvous is our main generator of income for the white water releases. We will be setting up a means of making donations if you would like to help us cover those expenses this year.
Also note: April whitewater releases from Quemahoning Reservoir have been cancelled. May releases are under review, a decision will be made and announced ASAP. Greenhouse Park and the Whitewater Park are closed and gated. You cannot take-out or put-in at Greenhouse Park. The rivers are open to paddling but we encourage you to maintain social distancing during shuttling and other times.
